Self Tanning At Home: What You Need To Know

May 6, 2013

Winter may just be around the corner, but that doesn’t you mean you need to say goodbye to your sun kissed glow! So we’ve put together everything you need to know about achieving a natural glow at home. If you give yourself a spray tan at home the right way, it will look completely natural. Here are some self tanning tips that you should follow.

Exfoliate your Skin

Before you give yourself a spray tan at home, you have to exfoliate your skin. Doing this will help get rid of dead skin cells so that the self-tanning product will go on smoothly. Make sure to pay close attention to your elbows, knees and heels. Also, remember to apply a moisturiser all over your skin after your spray tanning session.

Wear Latex Gloves

Unless you want orange palms, you should consider wearing latex gloves while you apply a spray tan at home. This way, you will not have to worry about washing your hands every few seconds. Or worse, having to worry about those tell tale signs afterwards!

Layer on Several Coats

To get the best possible colour, you should layer on several coats of self-tanner. Be sure to wait 10 minutes for each coat to dry. Applying the self-tanning product in just one thick layer will cause streaks and it might darker than you realised.

Use a Back Brush

Applying self-tanner to your back can be incredibly difficult if there is no one else around. One of the best self tanning tips you can follow is to use a back brush. Put the self-tanning product on the back brush and use it on your back.

Don’t Forget Your Face

Do not be afraid to apply self-tanner to your face. Self-tanning products have come a long way in recent years and are perfectly safe to use on your face. Pull your hair back into a ponytail beforehand so that you don’t get any product in your hair.

Avoid Washing Your Skin for 12 Hours

Wait at least 12 hours before taking a shower or bath. You have to allow the self-tanner to properly absorb in your skin. Also, avoid doing anything that will make you sweat excessively, such as exercising.
