The Top Beauty Mistakes We All Make

Let’s face it - we have all been guilty of these tanning mistakes at one point or another, whether we choose to accept it or not. It’s time to make a change and make the world a better place. So what is it that we are doing wrong?

Tone It Down

We have all been guilty of wanting to look about 10 shades darker than our actual skin colour. Colour matching is an important thing to keep in mind when selecting our spray tan. If you have a fair skin type, light to medium colours should be applied to ensure no artificial colours are thrown off and to also ensure that your spray tan looks natural.

Pump No More

Pumping your mascara wand to get more product out is a massive no-no. This pushes more air into the tube which can in turn encourage the development of nasty bacteria. It will also overload the brush with more product and cause clumpy eyelashes.

Bold Block-Out Brows

Yes, it’s true, some of us have been blessed with naturally beautiful bold brows (cough cough..Cara Delevigne) - others; not so much. In this case though, imitation is not always the best form of flattery. Ensure when filling your brows that you use a pencil to fill in all the sparse areas. Go lightly over the rest of the brow – don’t be too heavy handed. Remember less is more in this case, you don’t want it to look like you need a little extra face to accommodate those eyebrows!

Nail chips

Chipped nail polish, it happens, we know. The moment it happens though – it’s time for it to go. In terms of presentation, hands are definitely one of the things we tend to notice and chipped nails can make you look , ahem, less than polished. If you feel like your standard polish isn’t lasting the distance these days opt for something longer lasting such as shellac or an acrylic overlay.

Blend it Out

Another big boo-boo is using the incorrect brush for product application. There’s a reason why we have different make up brushes for different products; they’re specially designed for different consistencies. If your make up looks blotchy or it looks like someone has been finger painting all over that magnificent face of yours, chances are you’re using the wrong brushes. Another example of this is the dreaded visible foundation line – we’re not coping... Do you have a blending brush to fix that?!

Best Before

Always check the best-before date on your make up products; as an example, mascara has one of the shortest best-before periods, lasting approximately 6 months. This is important to note because using liquids and powders past their use-by can cause congestion on the skin.
